Collaboration seeks to advance domestic perovskite manufacturing

Washington, DC – This week, Tandem PV, a leading innovator of perovskite solar technology, joins the Solar Energy Manufacturers for America (SEMA) Coalition, a group working to onshore solar manufacturing and increase awareness and adoption of policies that ensure a vibrant, competitive U.S. solar sector.

“As Tandem PV works to commercialize perovskite solar panels, SEMA continues to be  an influential force in rebuilding a competitive U.S. solar supply chain,” said Scott Wharton, Tandem PV CEO. “Our collaboration is grounded in a mutual ambition to accelerate the production of solar technology in the U.S., with positive benefits to workers, energy independence and a sustainable future.”

Tandem PV, based in Silicon Valley, was founded in 2016 in response to the urgent need for a swift global transition to net carbon zero. Tandem PV combines conventional silicon solar cells with thin-film perovskite materials to create tandem panels that it describes as delivering an industry-leading combination of durability and efficiency –  30% more efficient than traditional silicon panels.

"Perovskite technology, poised to dominate the solar industry in the coming years, will be key to U.S. solar manufacturing success and contribute to a clean energy future across the globe," said SEMA Coalition Executive Director Michael Carr. "Pioneers like Tandem PV are leading this revolution and will be a critical addition to our ranks as our Coalition works to reshore the U.S. solar supply chain."

About Tandem PV: Tandem PV is driving the transition to a net-zero economy by developing state-of-the-art perovskite-based solar panels. The company is committed to the production of highly efficient and durable solar technology suited for broad-scale deployment. Its co-founder and CTO, Colin Bailie, developed the first perovskite-silicon tandem solar cell at Stanford University and launched the company through Cyclotron Road, the U.S. Dept. of Energy startup accelerator supporting innovations with potential for global commercial impact. Tandem PV has raised a total of $33 million in venture capital and government funds. www.tandempv.com/

About the SEMA Coalition: The SEMA Coalition is a group of solar manufacturers united to rebuild the solar supply chain in the United States. Following the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the coalition looks to capitalize on this unique opportunity to implement a suite of policies to rebuild a competitive, environmentally friendly, and socially-responsible U.S. solar supply chain. Together, the manufacturers within this coalition represent more than 13,000 workers in the United States. SEMA members include Caelux, Corning, CubicPV, First Solar, Heliene, Hemlock Semiconductor, Highland Materials, Qcells, REC, REC Silicon, Silfab Solar, Suniva, Swift Solar, Talon PV, Tandem PV, and Wacker. https://semacoalition.org/
